The second edition of IPL 2009 will start from April 18 with the first match being played at the Newlands Stadium in Cape Town. The final will be held at none other than Wanderers in Johannesburg on May 24as per the new schedule released by IPL. The semi-finals have been scheduled to be held on May 22nd and 23rd at Pretoria and Johannesburg respectively.
There will be two games on the first day, last year's IPL winners Rajasthan Royal will take on the Malaya's Bangalore Royal Challengers, while the Mumbai Indians would clash with the last years runners-up Chennai Super Kings at Cape Town.
In all, the 59 matches will be held in eight cities: Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban, Pretoria, East London, Kimberly, Bloemfontein and Port Elizabeth. With many south asians staying at Kingsmead in Durban, it has been alloted a majority share of 16 matches while the Centurion Park in Pretoria, which also serves as a home to many Indians will host 12 ties.
The daily timings for the matches are at 4 pm Indian Time - (12.30 pm local SA time) and 8 pm Indian Time - (4.30pm local SA time) A total of ten double headers which is two matches at the same venue will be played during the tournament. The Indian Tv Channel Sony will telecast the matches in three languages - English, Hindi and Bengali.
