After two dull and one-sided semifinals this was a great match with the luck swinging from one side to the other in equal measures.
The Indian Premier League dropped the curtain today after 44 days of cricket extravaganza. The Final started after some extra ordinary entertainment dished out by the organizers in the form of Indian Movie Stars, Music, Laser Shows and to end with para-gliders descending on the Stadium with individual team flags. And just before the finals began the entire crowd was held breathless by an awesome performance by Cirque du Soleil.
Shane Warne - Captain Rajasthan Royals won the Toss in the Finals of the Indian Premier League (IPL) played on Sunday at the D Y Patil Stadium in Mumbai, and decided to field.
There was no batting extravaganza for the Chennai Super Kings, yet good knocks from Parthiv, Raina and Dhoni helped the Superkings to 163. Yusuf Pathan was impressive, picking up 3/22 in his spell, pulling things back for the Royals. This one’s a two-paced track and the outfield isn’t lightning quick either so 163 was a moderately good score.
Rajasthan started the chase with Swapnil Asnodhkar firing 28 out of 20 balls before getting out to Morkel. After the loss of Swapnil, Pathan and Kamral Akmal, Shane Watson and Yusuf Pathan took over. Pathan was his usual self with some brilliant strokes and the partnership seemed unbreakable until Muralitharan broke the partnership getting Watson- 28 with a brilliant yorker. Pathan continued his superb stroke play with 4 power sixes and 3 boundaries scoring 56 until he was run-out by a direct throw by Suresh Raina.
In the end the luck swayed in equal momentum from one side to the other with every ball until the very end and it was left to none other than Shane Warne and Sohail Tanvir to reach a dramatic finish requiring one run out of one ball to clinch the DLF-IPL Final after a brilliant run in the entire league.
Chennai Super Kings - 163/8 in 20 overs
Rajasthan Royals - 164/7 in 20 overs
Rajasthan Royals won by 3 Wkts.
Shaun March retained the Orange Cap
Sohail Tanvir bagged the Purple Cap
Fly Kingfisher Fair Play award went to Chennai Super Kings
Man of the series award went to - Shane Watson - 472 Runs + 17 Wicktes
Man of the Match was Yusuf Pathan with 3 wkts and 56 runs.
- Watch out for this guy when he plays for India. |
