I think the big difference will be the participation of players of international acclaim whether they are citizens of India or other countries.Once they start watching the matches for those players , the interest will shift from individual players to the teams they support. A lot will depend on the intensity and quality of cricket that will be played. If there is steam, the crowd will definitely follow.

I think there is a big difference in international and the domestic cricket. We should support our team nothing more than that.

Further the big response is possible only if the supporter identifies himself with a team. For example Harbhajan is playing from Mumbai team and Sreesanth is playing with Mohali. A Punjabi is confused as to whom to support and hence lack of emotional outburst.

I think I mentioned this in another thread. This is specifically the reason that the icon players weren't auctioned and had to stick with their home team and lead it so that the fans can relate to the association of their home grown star to their team. After two seasons , they too would be in the pool ready to be auctioned like other players.
A similar case study can be done in the European soccer clubs.Although it's soccer and not cricket, the basic structure of the clubs is similar where the players can choose to move to another club in a different season and sometimes, that club is the rival club of the one he had been representing. Yet , the fan base doesn't dwindle. I think something similar might emerge as IPL travels over the years. |

no i dont think taht it can be compared with inter national cricket. The charm of india pak match can not be achieved in any other match. Here we would rarely want any team to loose.

Well ... India and Pakistan are totally different ball game ... In those matches old rival come in front of each other ... where as in this kind of game you will find Shoaib and Sourav both in the same team. Here you can enjoy the pure game of cricket and specially design for Indian public only not for Australia or Sri Lanka ... So there is no question of such excitement ... because in that type of matches there is also national feelings are involved ... but here sheer cricket only ... thats all

I could say that the IPL matches will not have a big impact as you said. Because all the teams will have international players in the team. So no one will have the feeling of nativity and obviously no patriotism here. Only because of patriotism, we all support India while playing against any other nation.

These kind of games are just for few minutes fun. And every one taking this tournament as money making only nothing else so definitely there will be no emotions. Although big names are attached to this who can draw the public but however match between two nations and this kind of match have totally different feelings. I am taking this tournament as fund raiser only as earlier various film stars and cricketers get together to raise money for a noble cause ... but here for Shahrukh, Anil Ambani, Vijay Mallaya and others ...
