SRK stands by Knight Riders and leaves defeat behind

May 18th, 2008

Lalit Burma - Kolkata

While talking to a Kolkata daily on Friday after the fateful match at the Wankhede Stadium, Shah Rukh Khan said that these things happen, teams do end of loosing badly and this time they got taken apart, and its sad for him when that happened to his own team.

When asked whether this happening in Mumbai, his own base made it a bigger disappointment, he said that he does not have any regional issues with the team, in fact he does not believe in regionalism, but what bothers him is that the team lost both its matches with the Mumbai Indians. He also said that they should have been able to cover their weaknesses and for him the bottom-line is that its not nice to lose to any team.

On asked about his take on what went wrong, he stated that it was a good toss to win and with the ball doing a lot it had to be a low scoring match, but there is little to be done when the total is no more than 67. He also said that no matter how potent his teams’ bowling is, he doesn’t think one can defend that small a total. For him what was heartening was that the boys did not give up.

He said that the best way to deal with this is to leave this defeat behind in Mumbai for the next match on Sunday against the Chennai super Kings, for him one way to deal is say “oh shit” and walk with heads down and the other way get over this quickly and look ahead.

As to what went wrong, he said that it was a good toss to win and even they had planned to put the opposition in with the ball doing a lot, it had to be a low scoring match… However, there’s little that one can do if the team totals no more than 67… No matter how potent the bowling its difficult to defend that small a total… What’s heartening to him was that the boys didn’t give up. He also added that there is a concern in the team, since they have won five and lost five, it’s a 50-50 percentage and the IPL isn’t yet over for the Kolkata Knight Riders.

SRK spent nearly the entire day yesterday with the team boosting them for the crucial match with Chennai.
