Kevin Pietersen and 100 others wait for IPL second auction January 30th, 2009
An overwhelming number of overseas players – is waiting anxiously for the second IPL player auction slated to be held in Goa on 6 February. As of now we have a count of approx 112 players who have signed up for the auction. Australia tops the list with 27 players, while the major surprise is the 21 English players who are waiting for this auction. The first season of IPL saw just one cricketer from the UK.
As per the new guidelines for IPL 2009, each franchisee will have a maximum limit of US $ 2 million, less any amount spent on signing temporary replacements from last year, for sign on overseas players in this auction. Kevin Pietersen has the highest base price of US$1.3 million and it is quite likely that he could end up being the highest paid in IPL 2009. This apart top talent such as Andrew Flintoff, Paul Collingwood who will be also available for a three week period for the next two years.
IPL commissioner Lalit added “The enthusiasm and interest displayed by players from all around the world to participate in the second season of the league has been truly overwhelming…which augurs well for development of world cricket,”. “We are extremely happy with the interest the league has garnered globally and look forward to the action at the second player auction in Goa.”
